Drinking water

1981

World Declarations

16

As DELEGATES to the PEOPLE'S CONGRESS, elected directly and democratically by a trans national electorate, spread over 110 countries

WE NOTICE:

  • That the drinking water reserves are not unlimited
  • That the development of civilisations of comfort increases its consumption tremendously and causes real waste
  • That urban and even rural industrialization cause growing pollution whose acceleration comes from the unlimited growth of the world population
  • That the water pollution might be felt hundred kilometres from its source because drinking water is carried by rivers and that the limits of river basins do not always coincide with the nations borders
  • That the clouds, sources of drinking water may become radioactive if exposed to nuclear explosions
  • That notwithstanding some local or international efforts to correct those harmful effects, the results are poor due to the lack of a water purification world policy

WE DEPLORE:

  • That more than a billion human beings, deprived of drinking water are consequently victims of severe diseases causing millions of death every year

WE ASSERT:

  • That the availability of drinking water, common wealth of human kind, in sufficient quantities is a human right

WE DEMAND THERE FORE:

While we are waiting for a democratic federal organisation of the world, the creation of World Institutions with real and well defined power that would be able to protect this vital element for human beings.
