MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES

Paris, December 1st, 1979

World Declarations

13

As DELEGATES to the PEOPLE'S CONGRESS, elected directly and democratically by a trans national electorate, spread over 110 countries

WE NOTICE:

That numerous private companies of gigantic proportions, called "multinational" or trans-national are developing since several years, throughout the world and more especially in Third world countries ;we see constant tactics of penetration and intervention into the social, economical and political life of the nations States considered as sovereign that give them the political power to override the democratic political power.

Admitting the fact that the technological development that the companies favour ,improves the living conditions and sometimes ensures better quality of life for an increasing number of consumers.

WE REGRET:

The severe consequences of this abusive expansion of activities essentially profit oriented:

  • On one hand, the difficulties that governmental, global and regional organisations encounter when they try to correct the growing disorder in world trade coming from:
    • The creation of self-centred and private profit units scattered around the world but under the strict rule of a head office.
    • The Third World wealth plundering and the waste of non renewable raw materials
  • On the other hand the infringement of the rights of individuals by:
    • The exploitation of the unequal working conditions in different countries
    • The disregard by this companies, in too numerous cases of the international working regulations
    • The crisis and unsettled relations that exist in the working places

WE DENOUNCE:

  • On one hand the lack of interest of public opinion, aware of numerous scandals and corruption cases, towards this behaviour
  • On the other hand, the lack of control on this companies

WE DECLARE that

ONLY THE CRETION OF A SUPRA NATIONAL WORLD INSTITUTION WITH LIMITED BUT EFFCTIVE POWERS WILL ALLOW REAL CONTROL OVER THE MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES
